Baltimore Ravens agree to trade Joe Flacco to Denver Broncos

Well, things just got a bit more interesting on the quarterbacking landscape for the 2019 NFL Draft. Manning went on to deliver two Super Bowl appearances and one championship.

It's possible this trade doesn't impact Green Bay's draft, but with quarterback no longer a need for Denver, it could result in one of Brian Gutekunst's top targets no longer being available at No. 12. Denver now owns two fourth-round selections. And in the coming weeks and months, the Broncos could try to trade Keenum, release him or, yes, keep him. A year ago, Elway signed Keenum to a two-year, $36 million deal and said Keenum had a better year in 2017 than Kirk Cousins, whom the Broncos had also looked at in free agency.

However, Flacco showed up when it counted the most during that 2012 season, and he offered up the best stretch of his career during those 2012 playoffs.

The Ravens have agreed to trade Joe Flacco to the Broncos, ESPN first reported Wednesday, after 11 seasons, one Super Bowl title and diminishing returns that ended with losing his starting job.

The comparisons are not exciting. The Ravens will absorb a $16 million cap penalty for trading Flacco. Elway doesn't believe in rebuilding for the long-term. So maybe it's a series of short-term fixes and a lot of hope. As things stand now, Keenum is scheduled to make $18 million in base salary in 2019, which includes $7 million in guaranteed money.

Flacco has a 10-5 career postseason record. Will the Broncos still look at drafting a quarterback? That adds more financial obligation to the position, and a short-term bottleneck that would likely prevent the rookie from gaining meaningful reps in game situations. We all know how the Trevor Siemian project went, the Paxton Lynch project wasn't much of a project to begin with, and Case Keenum struggled in his first season as the team's signal-caller, which brings us to Joe Flacco.
