It said the survey was conducted from July through September, "so the vast majority of these issues have already been corrected through design and manufacturing improvements, and we are already seeing a significant improvement in our field data". The reliability issues came to light in Consumer Reports' annual reliability survey, which asks members to rate their vehicles based on 17 aspects, ranging from suspension and electrical systems to cosmetic features, such as paint and trim.

The report was based on its annual reliability survey, which polls auto owners about the long term performance of almost every major automobile on the market.

In response to the Model 3 losing its recommendation, Tesla replied it has already fixed numerous issues pin-pointed by owners.

People who responded to the Consumer Reports survey cited a number of different problems.

This became evident in Tesla's struggles with the Model 3 ramp - an experience that Elon Musk describes as one of the most hard points of his career.

When the Model 3 first came out in 2017, Consumer Reports gave it an average predicted reliability score based on the survey results at the time about the Model S because the two shared much of the same technology.

Model 3 buyers say they aren't satisfied. "There are some issues replacing the (navigation/infotainment) screens, for instance, but we've seen other issues in terms of the trim breaking and the glass". That is out of 33 brands ranked by the group.
