Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th.

As has become the Marvel Cinematic Universe's trademark, Captain Marvel has taken the core elements of the comic book story - the warrior who has been told "no" so many times that she nearly believes it, the cosmic hero who overcomes betrayal to find her true self - and modified it to fit in with contemporary storytelling techniques (there are some elements of comic book Carol's backstory best left confined to the dustiest of corners).

Likewise, IGN's Meg Downey believed that Captain Marvel had its flaws.

Larson's gold dress was a drastic change compared to her electric blue ensemble she wore to the London premiere of the film.

Are you excited to see Captain Marvel? Without this film, we certainly would not have the post-credits scene in Iron Man. They go all out when it comes to the 1990s nostalgia! She jokes with Entertainment Weekly about how she had no problem doing all kinds of stunts, but when it came to scenes with the cat, they needed to find a workaround. Plus, when you're used to the most recent Marvel films, where we already know each character and can see them shine nearly immediately, and Captain Marvel's "big moment" takes far too long to arrive.

In the context of an online community that has in some corners been absurdly, childishly hostile to the very existence of this film, Larson plays Danvers with irreverence, humor and an understandable defiance, effectively showcasing how capable and formidable the character is long before we discover the true extent of her powers. By comparison, Captain Marvel's bravado feels earned, a result of a woman who's had to work twice as hard for everything she's ever received and never backed down from a challenge. Keep in mind, The Skrulls can tamper with memories, unintentionally revealing to Carol a past life on Earth (seemingly one as a human being) in their quest to locate the whereabouts of technology capable of crafting lightspeed aircraft. It certainly more than makes up for Captain Marvel being another spin of the wheel as far as origin stories go. On top of this, what we have is a film that sends off a feminist message, too.

Much hoopla has been made about Carol being an unsympathetic character, that's not the case at all. It helps that Larson is a charming lead as the sarcastic and confident Carol, whose performance sells every single beat. Those emotions flare up when Vers sees flashes of her past, which she can't remember.

"I spent over two hours with Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers and I still have no idea what her personality is". And Larson, a perceptive, low-key actor, carries the whole affair capably; she smiles just the right amount, which is not a lot. "As a Nick Fury [Samuel L Jackson] buddy comedy, it's fun". Now, the first reviews of the film have finally arrived. That is where she met Captain Mar-Vell, who was an undercover alien soldier.

This week, Marvel fans have a treat in store for them.

Ben Mendelsohn is entertaining as Skrull villain Talos, Jude Law is commanding and impressive as Kree warrior Yon-Rogg and Annette Benning is pleasingly quixotic as the tricksy Kree Supreme Intelligence. Lynch has the unenviable task of playing Carol's emotional anchor, the fellow Air Force pilot and former best friend who was as close to Carol as family. Last but not least, let's talk about Mendelsohn.
