Josephson, a college senior, was last seen by friends at a bar in Columbia early Friday morning.

The City of Columbia Police Department, the Clarendon County Sheriffs' Office, and SLED are continuing to investigate this case. Rowland was arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping, said police. She got separated from the group, so she called an Uber to take her home around 1:30 a.m. Friday, authorities said.

Police spotted the Impala that Josephson got into about 3 a.m. Saturday. The driver ran, but was arrested after a short chase, Holbrook said. Rowland was also in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Throughout the day, students in University of SC clothing placed flowers in front of a memorial at a fountain in Columbia's Five Points bar district where Josephson was last seen. "Skip" Holbrook said police discovered blood in the auto matching Josephson's and the victim's cellphone along with bleach, window cleaner and other cleaning supplies.

They also allegedly recovered her cellphone from his vehicle along with cleaning wipes, bleach, and window cleaner.

"There are no words to describe the enormous pain, his actions have caused our family and friends", Marci Josephson said.

It was not immediately clear how Josephson died.

Holbrook also said the child safety locks in the Impala were activated, which would make it hard for anyone to open the back doors from the inside.
