US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigns

Kirstjen Nielsen is officially out as Secretary of Department of Homeland Security and not everyone thinks she will be remembered fondly.

The New York Times reported almost a year ago, in May 2018, that Nielsen was close to resigning after Trump berated her in front of other Cabinet secretaries over increases in the number of immigrants crossing illegally from Mexico.

Earlier, local media reported citing sources in the Trump administration that US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was expected to offer her resignation on Sunday evening during a meeting with US President Donald Trump.

In particular, Trump-supporting immigration hard-liners have recently been especially critical of Nielsen's handling of the emergency declaration. McAleenan is a longtime border official who is well-respected by members of Congress and within the administration.

Nielsen is Trump's second secretary of homeland security, taking over the cabinet post in December 2017 after John Kelly became White House chief of staff. Nielsen had worked as a top aide to Kelly at both DHS and the White House.

Joe Biden to Make First Public Appearance Since Complaints About Behavior
On Friday, Trump told reporters Biden is "going through a situation" and said he doesn't regard him as a political threat. He doesn't get it if he's not understanding that women think their space was violated, that they were disrespected.

Million Records Leaked: Facebook Has Lost Control
This one contained Facebook passwords in plain text for 22,000 users, which is not as massive as the Cultura Colectiva dataset. Upguard also found a smaller data set in a separate AWS S3 instance which it says was a back up from the "At the Pool" app .

Nielsen had a 5 p.m. meeting Sunday at the White House with Trump where she was planning to discuss with him immigration and border issues and a path forward, senior administration officials tell CNN.

It was not the first time that Nielsen's supposed departure had been reported.

Trump has also reportedly blamed Nielsen for a spike in apprehensions at the border of migrant families trying to enter the US illegally. "Our system and facilities were never structured to withstand the current influx of immigrants", she said. And during the government shutdown over Trump's push for funding for a border wall, Nielsen's stock inside the White House even appeared to rise. He was appointed CBP deputy commissioner in November 2014 by President Barack Obama.

Representative Bennie Thompson, the Democratic chairman of the House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, said Nielsen's tenure at DHS "was a disaster from the start". McAleenan also has a reputation within CBP as a "brilliant" mind with "tremendous organizational skills".

Nielsen has faced criticism over the previous year, and has been a subject of recent critical segments from Fox News Channel's Lou Dobbs regarding her actions or, as some see it, perceived inaction on the border crisis.
