She said that Trump has picked career Secret Service member James M. Murray to take over the agency in May.

U.S. Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex" Alles was sacked Monday, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Lee Cissna, DHS undersecretary for management Claire Grady and DHS general counsel John Mitnick are also leaving the administration.

Director of the United States Secret Service Randolph Alles meets with guests before speaking at the Atlanta Press Club in Atlanta, Feb. 1, 2018.

Just five days ago, Trump said he "could not be happier with Secret Service" following the Mar-a-Lago incident.

The departure of Alles follows the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and Trump's decision to withdraw Ronald Vitiello, his nominee to head Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in favor of someone "tougher".

Randolph Alles is one of several Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials being ousted on Monday, says the BBC's U.S. affiliate, CBS News.

Her departure had been long rumored particularly after criticism of the administration's 2018 family separation policy at the border with Mexico and as USA border officials estimated that 100,000 migrants were apprehended at the southern border in March, the highest level in a decade.

However, US media report that under US law, the department's undersecretary, Claire Grady, should have been the one to take over for Ms Nielsen as the senior Senate-confirmed official.

The Secret Service also came under scrutiny last week after a Chinese woman carrying electronic devices bluffed her way through security checks at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Alles, a former Marine general who had no prior ties to the Secret Service, was recommended to the post by former White House chief of staff John Kelly.

Alles had been told Trump was preparing to make changes in leadership throughout the Department of Homeland Security, which includes oversight of the Secret Service.

Alles previously served in Customs and Border Protection leadership and also led that agency's Air and Marine Operations.
